The purpose of this site is giving real-life advice to boost chances of business success during the critical first five years of operation.
If you're considering starting a business, consider this advice from Michael Soenen, co-founder of Emergency Link in Southern California's South Bay and former CEO of FTD Floral.
He says if you want to start a business simply because you want to reaplce a job, then reconsider what you're about to do. I interviewed him about his company and asked his advice for other entrepreneurs:
"Those who default in to becoming entrepreneurs are going to fail. I tell them as much.
"Being an entrepreneur is a 20 hour a day thankless job. There’s a lot of work with little recognition. You have to have tremendous strength of will and courage and people like that are going to be successful no matter what they do. They’re going to be successful in any market environment.
"Others will fail
He says running a business takes, "Total commitment, dedication and desire on behalf of the person in charge."
